Press Release from Northern Rivers BMX

Northern Rivers BMX Press Release. 23rd July 2008.

Unfortunately due to construction delays the introduction of the Melton BMX track into the Northern Rivers series has been cancelled for 2008. The committee gave the Melton Club as much opportunity as possible to have there venue ready so that Victorians riders had the opportunity to try a new track but due to delays it is not possible for Melton to host a round of the 2008 series. We hope that we can include the Melton track as part of the 2009 series. The venue for the 6th round of the series on the 17th of August will now be the Sunbury BMX Club.

The remaining series venues and dates are:

Round 5 Sunday 3rd Aug, Border BMX Club,

Silva Drive, Wodonga, 420 F6

Round 6 Sunday 17th August, Sunbury BMX Club

Cornish Street, Sunbury, 113 A8

Final Round Saturday night 30th August, Shepparton BMX Club,

Brauman St, Shepparton 419 J7

Updated Calendar for 2008

There have been a few changes and additions to the Race Calendar for 2008.

We have now published an updated calendar reflecting these changes.

The most important changes relate to a changed date for park Orchards round of Metro Plate and the addition of the western region Coastal Challenge series.

Press release from BMXV. State Team Challenge Trophy
BMX Victoria today released photo's of the trophy that will be up for grabs in the inaugural SABMXA vs BMXV State Team Challenge. The State Team Challenge will be a 3 moto teams race that will take place on Sunday the 8th of June as part of the Blue Lake BMX clubs SA vs Vic race meeting.  BMXV State Coaching Director Wayne Berryman said today "Our State Team held their last get together two weeks ago, before a number of them went off to the World titles.  All the riders that are going to the Mt Gambier race meeting are pumped and they are all keen to be one the 4 riders that get to race for this trophy.  There was a little bit of State Footy in the rooms when we got together after training and a whole lot of them were pumping each other up about "sticking it up the South Australians."  I know that there is a lot of Victorian riders going to the race meet this year and I am sure they will be making a lot of noise when these teams races are taking place.  Last year was the first time in recent years that Victoria has won the SA vs Vic race meet and I know that we want to keep it that way this year.  The addition of the State Teams Challenge this year just adds even more state rivalry to this race meet.  And that can only be good for the sport of BMX."

2008 State Championships Update.
Border need some help this Saturday May 31st

Border BMX Club are working all this week on finishing touches to the construction phase of their track re-build. They've got Council and Office of Corrections help for the next few days.

On Saturday this weekend, they would appreciate a hand from any and all energetic BMX supporters to put finishing touches to the surface. Team up with a mate or two and head up to give them a hand on Saturday, bring own tools - rakes and shovels etc

I know you probably have plenty to do BMX-wise and in your other life, but this call comes at a time of need from our friends up north. Please consider organising a few of your club members to be relieved of normal duties at whatever clubbies you all have on Saturday, so that they can head up to Wodonga and help out.

Our understanding is that Saturday should be mainly surfacing with perhaps a bit of final shaping of jumps.

Northern Rivers 2008 Changed venues for rounds 4,5 & 6

Please note!

The venues for rounds 4, 5 & 6 of the Northern Rivers series have been shuffled. The reason is to allow the new track at Melton more time to complete construction.

The Events Page on the web site has been updated to reflect the changes.

The entry form for round 3 at Border also has the new venues listed.

It is also worth noting that the final round at Shepparton is on a Saturday night.

Mt Gambier Update. All riders who ride 20" classes and are aged 40+ must read this

BMXV Secretary Steve Hunter has been talking to the organisers of the events at Mt Gambier to be run over the June long weekend.

Following representations from Steve the event organisers for both the Australian Country Championships on the Saturday and the Vic v SA challenge on the sunday have agreed to add a 40+ or even a 45+ 20" class if the numbers are sufficient.

If you are interested in riding a 20" please note your correct age class on the entry form and also email the organisers advising them of your intentions.

Metro Plate 2008 Begins. NO ENTRIES ON DAY!

All entry forms for metro Plate this year have a notation that there will be "No pay on Day Entries". We have just received clarification from Park Orchards BMX Club as follows.

In order to avoid potential confusion or misunderstanding regarding the intent of the wording "NO Pay on Day entries, No exceptions" on the 2008 Metro Plate (Park Orchards round) entry forms, this means that  no entries on day will be accepted but payments for pre entry (phone, fax, email prior to 9pm saturday night) can be made on the race day.

Vic's to Head Over the Border.

Friday May 9th 2008

Each year on the Queens Birthday weekend a contingent of Victorian rider crosses the border into South Australia for the annual Vic v SA challenge @ Mt Gambier.

Each year the Blue Lake BMX club hosts the event and in recent years the numbers have grown substantially.

After several years of SA dominance due mainly to a lack of Victorians attending the Vics won it last year. The Victorian state squad are also planning to head down there this year for a special State Challenge race as well.

This year there are three events on the weekend,

  • Saturday is the Australian Country Championships which is a good chance for us to get a bit of practice on the track.
  • Sunday is the Vic v SA challenge, we urge all Victorian riders to head down and bring home the trophy again.
  • Because of the long weekend that leaves Monday to drive home or if you still want more racing there is a round of the South Australian State Series to race first. (The entry form for this says only South Australians can enter the series but I am assured they will accept entries from any Victorian who wants to race)

Entry forms are available on the Events page or click on the appropriate link for each form.

Northern Rivers BMX Series Press release

Monday April 28th 2008

Northern Rivers BMX Press release

HERE IT IS! VICTORIA’S (if not Australia’s) NUMBER 1 VET PRO SERIES

The 2008 Northern Rivers series starts this Sunday the 4th of May.

In 2007 we had 15 to 20 riders in the Vet Pro class at every round and a final expert prize pool of over $800 and if that wasn’t good enough for some we have upped the ante to make it even better.

This year there is a guaranteed prize pool of $150 for each of the 6 preliminary rounds. Northern Rivers is also putting in a bonus $300 for the final round. This means that if we have a similar number of riders to last year the Expert final will race for approx $900. If we can get a few more riders to do the series we could end up with $1000+ final prize pool.

To make the racing even better we have set the rules to make the rider’s race hard in all their races.

Moto points carry through to the final in each of the preliminary rounds, i.e. your moto points are added to the expert final points to determine the winner on the day.

Only 8 riders will qualify for the expert final at the end of the series based on moto points.

What this means that riders who want to win a round or qualify for the series final will have race hard in their moto’s, great racing for the competitors and the spectators.

So there it is folks. Not only has Northern River organized a series for all the Vet Pro riders, they have put up the dollars and to top it off put in place a format that encourages and rewards riders to race hard in every race.

Northern Rivers has put together the series and the bucks for those 30+ riders who want some red hot vet pro action. All you have to do is turn up and race!

BUT WAIT THERE IS MORE!

This year the Northern Rivers has a mountain bike class (this is a separate class from the cruisers and only mountain bikes will be accepted in this class), as well as a 10 to 13 voucher class.

All junior age classes offered, 19+ 20” and cruisers as well as a 14+ class with a guaranteed prize pool.

Have you considered standing for the BMXV Board?

The BMX Victoria Annual General Meeting will be held in conjunction with a BMXV Council Meeting on Saturday 17th May.
The meeting will commence at 2pm and will be held at the Knox BMX Club.
One of the important pieces of business at the AGM will be the election of Board members. The BMXV Board meets monthly and basically runs the sport on behalf of all the affiliated Victorian BMX Clubs.

Board positions run for two years (except in the case of a casual vacancy, which is the case with one of the positions up for election this year) and half of the Board comes up for election, or re-election every year.

Five positions on the Board Of Management of BMXV are up for election at the forthcoming AGM.
These are the positions of :-
Vice-President          term 2 years   position currently held by Jeff Solomano
Secretary                   term 2 years   position currently held by Steve Hunter
Ordinary Member      term 2 years   position currently held by Diane Lacey
Ordinary Member      term 2 years   position currently held by Tony Harvey
Ordinary Member      term 1 year*   position currently held by Graeme Anderson
Have you considered standing for the Board and making a contribution to how the sport of BMX is run in Victoria?  The Board is always looking for people prepared to make a contribution to help making BMX grow in this State.

If you want to stand for election to the Board you must be nominated by your Club. The nomination has to be in writing, and must be signed by your Club and by yourself acknowledging that you give your consent to be nominated. Your Club has the necessary forms with which to nominate .

So please think about it, and if you are interested, but maybe need more information, please speak to your Club President, Club Secretary, or someone already on the Board or you can email bmxv@optusnet.com.au or phone 0448 400 423 .
