Help Needed: To make 2009 Victorian State Titles and Track Attack Better , we need some help: We want to set up a Points Café (like at the 2009 Nationals and ACT). Do you have access to any of the items below and would like to donate/lend to BMX Victoria and its associated clubs, Please read attached.
Metro Plate Series Results: Check out the series Results after 2 rounds of the Metro Plate. Make sure you enter the same class each round.
New BMXV President: Wayne Berryman has been appointed the new BMXV president. Please read his first letter to all clubs attached here.
State Sprocket Coordinator: Renee Richardson has been appointed the State Sprocket Coordinator for Victoria. Please see the attached Information regarding the need for a club sprocket coordinator.
Sportscover Bushfire Grants: in response to the Victorian bushfire tragedy the Sportscover Sponsorship Fund (SSF) throughout 2009 will be distributing 20 x $1000 grants. The grants are available to sports clubs and associations that have lost sports equipment as a direct result of the Victorian bushfires that occurred during February 2009. Please see Flyer for more information.
Working With Children Checks: From 30th June 2009 all volunteers in our sport will need to have passed a Working With Children Check (WWCC), or to have applied for same. It is both a legal requirement and a requirement of our Insurers that all our volunteers and officials have passed their WWCC by 30th June 2010. The time to apply is now. The best place to get information is at the Victorian Government website www.justice.vic.gov.au/workingwithchildren
Not all your Club members have internet access, but Clubs can order bulk application forms to distribute to your members via the Working With Children Check website, or use this link taken from same :- https://submit.justice.vic.gov.au/CA25691800094F30/WWCCAppRequest?OpenForm
BMXV is maintaining a Register of members who have passed a WWCC. If you list BMXV and our address on the form then we will get confirmation direct from the Dept Of Justice once you have passed.
Important: It was pointed out at yesterday’s Council meeting that there will be a number of members who have passed a Working With Children Check due to their working with children on a professional basis, for example Teachers and Healthcare professionals or through , for example, another sport or voluntary organization. In cases such as these we still need to know the following information for our WWCC Register:- SURNAME, GIVEN NAMES, DATE OF BIRTH, APPLICATION NUMBER, DATE OF ISSUE
This information will be checked against the Dept. Of Justice database. If you, or a Club member have passed a WWCC and BMXV was not listed on the application, then please forward the above information to us.
There has been comment at Council meetings that there are exceptions under the Victorian Act for people who are “being directly supervised” .However it has to be understood that it is an expectation of our Insurers that all our Officials will have passed a Working With Children Check.
The good news is that in Victoria there is no charge for a WWCC for people undertaking voluntary work (in some States they do have to pay for the check).
Metro Plate 2009 - You may have noticed that the Park Orchards “Clash of the Titans” flyer says “Round 1 of the 2009 Metro Plate Series”. This year the Metro Plate series will be run in conjunction with the Eastern Region clubs individual open race meetings. There will be no extra races and no extra entry fees or anything else different, except that the points scores from the Age Classes (both 20” and Cruiser) will be taken from each open race meeting and used in the Metro Plate Series points scores.
So all you need to do is make sure to be at all (or as many as possible) of the Eastern Region Opens – Clash of the Titans at Park Orchards, Western Park Warragul Open, Hell Track at Frankston, The Eastfield Experience, Lilydale’s Spring Cup, Knox Thunderdome, and Cash Dash at South Eastern.
The Metro Plate Series trophies will be the traditional shield boards, and will be available to those who purchase them.
Check out the attached Flyer.
State Championships: The State Championships will be held at the Eastfield BMX Club on the 28th and 29th November.
Three Ride Permit: BMX Australia are now offering a 3 ride permit. This is only available to new riders and allows them three rides at club events, it is only valid for 3 months. The cost is $20 and when upgrading to a club or open licence, they will receive a $30 discount on their membership. Clubs, please read the information on Three Ride Permits for information on processing. See the Forms section for order forms.
