MEDIA RELEASE: COVID-19 (1pm, Tuesday 17th March 2020)

MEDIA RELEASE

Additional clarification has been requested following the Media Release by BMX Victoria on Monday 16th March at 8:30pm.

BMX Victoria have postponed all BMX related events in Victoria whilst the state of emergency is in place by the government.

The sanctioning matrix on Page 9 of the BMX Australia 2020 Rule Book states that Class C events are sanctioned by Clubs. These include club championships/series/events Inter Club Challenge.

BMX Victoria strongly encourage all clubs to consider the health and safety of our Victorian BMX community as your priority prior to sanctioning any club-related activities of any size.

The Victorian Government have recommendations & restrictions in place relating to activities during this state of emergency. All clubs should be familiar with these recommendations & restrictions, and also be aware that the expanded government powers mean that people who don’t comply with a government directive could receive a fine of up to $20,000.

The situation is rapidly changing and we urge you to regularly check the DHHS coronavirus website at www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus for updates.
